Bessarabian Christs

Not necessarily unique to Bessarabia (currently Republic of Moldova), for these are present under different styles in many Eastern Europe's Orthodox countries.

However, the Bessarabian Christs are one of the most interesting (and beautiful) forms of religious art. This popular/naive wood carving style was and still is a form of resistance through faith in Bessarabia.
